The first Prayer @ Parliament for 2014 was held on Thursday March 20 in the Grand Hall. It was well attended. Once again Christians from virtually every major denomination and movement were present.
Representatives from Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Hastings, Gisborne, Masterton, Palmerston North, Feilding, Levin, New Plymouth, Upper Hutt, Hutt City, Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti had registered for the Gathering.
The Theme for this year is, “The Gospel and the Government”. There are two major events happening in our Nation that we want to focus on. Firstly this is the bicentenary of the coming of the gospel to our country when Rev Samuel Marsden preached from Luke 2 on Christmas Day 1814 near the Bay of Plenty. It is a time to celebrate, evaluate (how effective we have been) propagate, (strategise and spread) the gospel. Secondly the Prime Minister has announced the date of the General Election, September 20, just 6 months away.
There were 3 Prayer Tracks:
-
Track 1: Gospel 2014 - Dave Mann of the Hope Project shared information about this nationwide Project.
- See www.hopeproject.co.nz for more details.
- See www.breakout.co.nz for a regular Wellington outreach.

Track 2: Election 2014 – A Christian’s Civic Duties, Pastor Rasik Ranchord shared:
-
We have dual citizenship –
- Earthly – we are citizens of NZ
- Heavenly – we are citizens of heaven (Phil 3:20)
- “We are to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s”. Jesus said. One of our responsibilities is to vote. Are you aware that 800,000 people eligible to vote (30%) did not vote in the last election. What portion of that number were Christians!

The Late Catherine Hollister-Jones used to attend Prayer @ Parliament. She was 94 and used to fly in from Tauranga. She recently went home to be with the Lord. Brian Caughley (Intercessors for NZ) gave a report of her Farewell Service and we all read together the prayer she had written for Members of Parliament.
Prayers were fervent, Bible Readings were powerful, Input was inspirational and Praise resounded in Parliament!
There is also a visual report on our website www.prayeratparliament.org
Next Prayer @ Parliament is on June 26, 2014.
